Andre first started sailing for an NGO in the UK, taking disabled children across the English Channel to France on a gaff-rigged Bristol pilot cutter.
Since then he has done a couple of Atlantic crossings from Cape Town to Brazil and the Caribbean as well as some sailing along the
South African coast.
In August Andre will skipper a yacht from the Bahamas across the
Pacific to Fiji.
Charles Howell,

Charles learned to sail with Good Hope Sailing Academy. He subsequently bought his own yacht which is moored in Hout Bay. Besides being a sailing instructor, Charles is also a diving and climbing instructor.
Charles loves sailing and never misses an opportunity to do so.

Clive first sailed dinghies in the UK at the age of 7. He spent 12 years in the Royal Navy as a RADAR operator.
Clive has had many years of recreational sailing and racing in various parts of the world and South Africa. Clive has done a number of crossings such as Cape Town - Rio - Cape Town, sailing there there as navigator, and skippering the return journey. He also sailed from Cape Town to St Lucia as mate and from St Lucia to Granada as skipper. Clive has owned a number of dinghies and a Muira and is skippering a couple of yachts at the Royal Cape Yacht club at present.

Jannie was responsible for modernising and redrafting the SAS syllabus in 2008 and set all the exams from SAS Day Skipper to SAS Yachtmaster Offshore. He trains the Coastal Skipper and Yacht Master Courses.
In his role as Chairman of the SAS National Inland and Offshore Committee, Jannie is responsible for the operation and continuous improvement of the SAS syllabus and examination structures.
Jannie spent his holidays cruising in the Mediterranean.

Kevin started sailing at an early age at the Imperial Yacht Club (Sandvlei), and by the time he was 12 years old owned his first Optimist dinghy. When he outgrew that, he went on to sail an Xtra. Kevin also gained experience sailing the larger Saldanha dinghies, as a member of the Sea Scouts. When he was 18, Kevin started sailing keelboats and has been a regular crew on a 49' yacht on which he sailed in the Governor's Cup to St Helena. He has also spent many weeks sailing charter yachts in Greece, Turkey and Croatia.

Poul started Good Hope Sailing Academy in June 1995. Poul has sailed since he was a small child back in Denmark. He has done numerous crossing as skipper, navigator, crew and even as a cook. Poul has sailed in many parts of the world and in all kind of vessels, the latest being a luxury catamaran to Barbados. Poul shares his love and knowledge with his students.
Good Hope Sailing Academy was established in 1995 and since then over 3000 students has attended its courses.

Rob started sailing windsurfers and then Hobie Cats on inland waters in the mid nineties. On arriving in Cape Town in 2000 he did some social sailing out of False Bay Yacht Club, then having started his SAS sailing instruction with Good Hope Sailing Academy in 2001, went on to become an instructor with GHSA in 2002. Rob has sailed the Western and Eastern Cape coastlines out of Royal Cape Yacht Club, and spent time aboard charter yachts in Croatia and Seychelles. He still sails the Hobie out of Fish Hoek Beach Sailing Club when he gets the time!

Tony has sailed since the age of 14. The first years were in dinghies, Dabchicks, Sprogs, Fireballs, 505s and later a Hobie
14 which he owned for 7 years. Then came a third share in an Avocet 25 on the Vaal Dam for 8 years. In 2000 he sailed
the Cape to Rio Race as watch captain on a Farr 38, returning the yacht to Cape Town as navigator with the
owner/skipper after the race. Since 2004 he has skippered and cared for a van der Stadt 34 moored at RCYC. In
September 2010 he took delivery of a new 46 ft motor-catamaran in La Rochelle, France and sailed it to Porto
Rotondo in Sardinia via Gibraltar for the owner. In August 2011 he took the cat to Bizerte in Tunisia and back, and then
cruised with the owner off NE Sardinia for three weeks.
Classroom and Vessels.
The theory on all our courses is done in our classroom at the Royal Cape Yacht Club. The practical Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses are taught on Muiras, (10 metre sea-going yachts) and the Coastal Skipper Course is taught on a Holiday 34'.
