We teach S.A. Sailing’s internationally accepted sailing courses. The only sailing qualification recognised by the South African Port Authorities. An SA Sailing ticket also entitles the holder to an ICC Certificate (International Certificate of Competence). Our instructors are experienced and together have hundreds of hours of sailing between them. You’re also in good company – Good Hope Sailing Academy was established in 1993 and since then over 3000 students have attended its courses.
We offer courses for all levels of skill – from those just starting out, to the more experienced sailors. If it’s your first time sailing, we offer a Competent Crew Course to help you acclimatise. On the other hand, if you’re experienced and need a challenge, how about our Coastal Skipper course? We’re a friendly sailing school that aim to make all feel welcome. We sail because we love the sea. We are enthusiastic about passing on our knowledge. We achieve results. Our students sail the world!

Qualifications
I was introduced to the yachting industry at the end of 2022, and found a profound love and admiration for it.
I believe this industry can open so many doors for everyone, as it has for me. I also believe that this industry is meant for anyone who loves being out on the water.
My vision for this school is to help people become the best versions of themselves as skippers or crew onboard a vessel, and help them gain the love, admiration and respect for the ocean, and everything it can offer.
Qualifications:
Nic found his passion for sailing at an early age of 13, sailing dinghy’s on Zeekoevlei. He crewed on charter vessels at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and then set off on a 65 foot schooner, first as crew and then as first mate, sailing the North Pacific. Nic loves teaching sailing and sharing his experience and knowledge with students.
Lisa started sailing with Good Hope Sailing Academy after having sailed dinghies for years. She joined the GHSA when she qualified. Lisa sailed to St. Helena in the Governor’s Cup in 2012 and sailed from Cape Town to Seychelles to deliver a Leopard 44.
She spends her holidays skippering a Catamaran in Seychelles.
Ian started sailing at the age of 11 (some 55-plus years ago) on the Vaaldam and over the years has owned and built a number of sailing vessels. He has sailed the SA coastline extensively from Richards Bay on the East coast to Hondeklip Baai on the West both for pleasure and deliveries.
The theory on all our courses is done in our classroom at the Royal Cape Yacht Club. The practical component of our courses are taught on a Miura (10 metre sea-going yacht) or your own vessel.
