SHORT RANGE

The new Short Range Certificate course (SRC) for operating a VHF radio has now replaced the old Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate. Good Hope Sailing Academy has been accredited by SAMSA and is now able to offer the new radio course to our students, as this is a requirement for obtaining your Day Skipper’s licence from SA Sailing. The course covers radio procedures as prescribed by GMDSS including Digital Selective Calling techniques, using actual radio sets. The course runs over three evenings with a practical and written test on the last evening. This will prepare you to write SAMSA’s exam to obtain your SRC certificate. A comprehensive manual is included. SAMSA registration and exams fees are excluded. Part-time: Duration: Saturday and Sunday from 10h00 to 17h00. Full-time: An alternative to the above weekends, the full time course is held on a Tuesday and Thursday. Good Hope Sailing Academy’s classroom, Royal Cape Yacht Club.
